Dorset has a great range of beaches including the famous Chesil Beach, the Jurassic Coast and the award winning Weymouth Beach. There is a great diversity of beaches in Dorset including the stunning Chesil Beach which stretches for 18 miles from the beautiful village of West Bay to Portland. Weymouth Beach is famed for the quality of its ultra fine sand, making it the best beach in the country for building sand castles. Lulworth Cove, Charmouth Beach, Worbarrow Bay and Seatown Beach are just a few of the many diverse beaches that form the Jurassic Coast, if you are lucky, you may even find a fossil or two.
The beaches in Dorset are typically sand, shingle or small boulders and face south towards the English channel. This location provides waves but not as big as the north coasts of Devon and Cornwall making many beaches ideal for families with young children. A lot of the popular beaches are manned by RNLI Lifeguards during the main holiday season and we would only recommend swimming in patrolled areas.
A lot of the beaches have great facilities, probably more so than anywhere else as there are several towns and villages along the coast that have developed with tourism being the main industry. You will also find a great selection of holiday parks near the beach in Dorset as the gently sloping hills means that the parks have developed quite close to the sea. There are holiday parks in Dorset that welcome dogs and parks with static caravans for sale in Dorset all reviewed here. There are a great selection of holiday parks, from tranquil parks in scenic locations, to large parks with a full range of facilities to keep active families busy on holiday. Waterside Holiday Park has consistently been one of the best managed holiday parks in Dorset, if not the country and has won numerous awards over the years and is extremely well managed. The park is situated at Bowleaze Cove at the eastern end of Weymouth beach. Bowleaze Cove is a sand and pebble beach and is sheltered making it ideal for families with young children. This is a dog friendly beach with a shop and café right by the beach and is literally opposite the entrance to Waterside Holiday Park. At the other end is Weymouth Beach, in our opinion and of others, the beach with the best sand in the country, it is amazingly fine sand. Behind Weymouth Beach is the town, everything you want is here and if you venture off the main high street, there are some great shops down the little alleys.
Waterside Holiday Park is an award winning park with the highest standards in cleanliness, park maintenance and facilities and one of the top parks for caravan holidays in Dorset. The spa is great and has lots to offer with a range of treatments, sauna, hydrotherapy pool and a steam room. There are indoor and outdoor pools, the indoor pool has waterslides for little ones and a bubble pool.

Swanage is a really nice beach with a promenade backed by a Victorian seaside town that is typical of many that dot along the Dorset and South Devon coastline. As the beach backs onto the town, there is every facility that you will ever need nearby. The beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer months and also has a dog ban from May to September. This is a great beach to visit, ideal for all families with younger and older children. Swanage Coastal Park is about one mile from this beautiful beach in Dorset.
Swanage Coastal Park offers the best of both worlds really, it sits above and on the edge of the town and backs on to the country side, so you get a beach holiday with a countryside and quiet feel. This is a relaxed park, hilly so not really suitable for those that don’t like slopes, and has lots of character. The vans and lodges are well spaced out which adds to the laid back feel and the accommodation is high quality. The park itself has limited facilities but there are shops, restaurants in the town which is a short walk away.
