Freshwater and Yarmouth sit on the west of the Isle of Wight with the town of Yarmouth being the port for the Wightlink car ferry. Despite the fact that it is a town, Yarmouth is actually not very big at all with a small population, although they are a welcoming crew! The town has a great pier and a small shingle beach at the side of it. You can walk to Freshwater as well from Yarmouth along the old railway track.

The area around Yarmouth and Freshwater is not best known for the sandy baches on the other parts of the Isle of Wight, but the countryside and scenery around here is spectacular. The Needles is probably the best known and the National Trust Needles headland offers some spectacular views and walks. Whilst Arch Rock is no more, Stag Rock and Mermaid Rock are both beautiful natural landmarks. Freshwater has a beach, mainly pebbles at high tide and the withdrawing tide exposes sand. It is a popular beach with plenty of car parking available, shops are nearby and the esplanade is a nice walk.
