Best Holiday Parks in Somerset By the Sea
See Our Favourite Caravan Parks in Somerset near the Beach
Somerset is a beautiful and peaceful county, if you take the time to get off the M5 and here we present our favourite holiday parks in Somerset and caravan parks in Somerset. Many drive past and miss the wonders of a county famous for cheddar cheese and cider, Somerset is laid back and often missed by tourists. The main tourism areas for holiday parks are Weston Super Mare, Minehead, Brean, and Burham on Sea and there are several smaller parks dotted around the famous Cheddar Gorge. Somerset was a popular seaside destination in Victorian times with Clevedon and the other towns and villages being developed as they had easy access from nearby cities, notably Bristol.
Today, Somerset has a thriving and growing tourism industry with several new seaside holiday parks opening targeting the luxury end of the market. Burnham on Sea and Brean are the main bases for the holiday park industry and there is a great selection to choose from including dog friendly holiday parks in Somerset. The beaches on the north Somerset coastline are a lot calmer than Devon and Cornwall as they are protected from Atlantic swells and face towards the Bristol Channel. This makes these holiday parks perfect for families, especially those with younger children. The parks have evolved and now offer some of the best facilities in the UK and you can view our best UK beachside holiday parks here.
Minehead, Somerset
Butlins Minehead is more than a holiday park, it is a resort in itself and it needs to be listed because it has changed a lot. The resort has grown, developed and modernised and evolved into a more sophisticated holiday offering a range of accommodation from the basic chalets to Lakeside chalets, luxury apartments and lodges. Butlins has everything, the resort is huge and is just a short walk from the centre of the pretty Victorian Exmoor town of Minehead. For example, most holiday parks now have a swimming pool offering, Butlins has a bit more! The Space Bowl is great fun, shoot down into a bowl, spin around the outside and as you loose speed, you end up dropping through the centre with a big splash. The Master Blaster is a raft based indoor ride with jumps and twists, great if you like an adrenaline rush.
Butlins Minehead is also a major entertainment holiday park, it can attract the top names in showbiz, not just for adults, but also for kids. This resort really provides something for everyone, you can enjoy the fair grounds, meet Peppa Pig, Justin Fletcher, Thomas the Tank Engine or enjoy the latest bands, famous tv presenters and more. If you haven’t seen Butlins lately, take a look. It is right opposite the beach in Minehead which is itself a beautiful town and has retained a lot of its charm and character.

Burnham-on-Sea, Somerset
Burnham-on-Sea Holiday Park is probably the most iconic holiday park in one of the most popular beach based destinations in Somerset and is one of the best known Haven sites. The holiday park is located right by the Esplanade which offers a great walk, especially in the evenings with a range of tourist based shops, amusements, cafes, pubs and restaurants, many in preserved Victorian buildings. The beach is in an area that has the second largest tidal reach in the world, it is patrolled by lifeguards during the summer months and does not allow dogs. Swimming and paddling are best around the high tide time and there are all of the facilities you will ever need a stones throw away from the beach. This is not a huge surf style beach, a lot calmer and more young child friendly and also a great beach for building sand castles.
Burnham-on-Sea Holiday Park is very well developed with an indoor and outdoor pool with slides and flumes as well as two fishing lakes to enjoy if you like a spot of fishing. There is a boating lake, crazy golf, bungee trampoline, arcade and daytime and evening entertainment. The main accommodation type is static caravans, as is the case with the majority of the holiday parks at Burnham-on-Sea. We think this is a great location if you want a family based park with easy access to the beach and the town for a family caravan holiday by the beach in Somerset.

Beachside Holiday Park is at the other end of the beach from Burnham-on-Sea Holiday Park and offers a contrasting holiday park by the sea in Somerset. This is a static caravan based holiday park with around 160 units, primarily static caravans. The park has a reception, children’s playground and ball games area and offers dog friendly units as well as static caravans for sale. The contrast is that this is in a quieter location and is based on the natural contours of the land with a variety of wildlife and offers easy access to the end of the beach which tends to be quieter. It is ideal for families and couples looking for a smaller and more intimate park, the prices are great as well with some fantastic offers. We think that this is a perfect holiday park by the sea in Brean Sands.

In complete contrast to beachside and yet just a stones throw away is Holiday Resort Unity. This is a complete contrast and has been a holiday park for 75 years now, well established really does not cover Holiday resort Unity, it has everything and is one of the most popular holiday parks by the sea in Somerset. When we say everything, there is not a lot that they really do not have. 18 hole golf course, country club and gym, splash waterpark, amusement arcades, theme park, it really just goes on and on and on. You can even buy your own holiday home here, there is literally everything that you could want from a holiday park.
As with all of the holiday parks in Brean and Burnham-on-Sea, one of the real attractions is that they are easy to reach. Just a short drive from the M5, a lot easier to get too than the distant coasts of Devon and Cornwall. Combine that with a park that has everything and you get a really popular location, very close to the beach and offering static caravans including accessible static caravans, lodges, camping pods, cabins and tents. A great place if you want action, entertainment and easy access to the beach without that drive!

Near Minehead, Somerset
To be honest, we also liked the look of Sandy Glade Holiday Park and Hoburne’s very well presented Blue Anchor Holiday Park and in the end, we trumped for Doniford Bay Holiday Park, near to Watchet and Minehead. The reason being is that the area around here is really peaceful, a great location to relax. The beach is pebble stone, not the sandy beach that you get at the other resorts but this is a combination of a really gorgeous setting, East and West Quantoxhead are truly stunning and Watchet is such a beautiful place to visit.
Doniford Bay Holiday Park really hits the mark if you want a holiday park near the sea in Somerset in a quiet and picturesque location but with a range of great facilities. It is an activity based holiday park with a zip wire, great adventure park for the kids overlooking the sea, 4 line slade and an indoor and outdoor pool, climbing wall, tennis court and more. There is a good sized entertainment venue with bar, café, takeaway and amusement arcade. You can even catch the steam train to Minehead from nearby Williton. A great holiday park in a gorgeous rural location, ideal for families that want facilities, but in a peaceful location.

We hope that you have enjoyed our top five parks by the beach in Somerset, there are a lot more and an ever growing number more inland that are newer to the market. The coast of Somerset has a lot to offer and the big bonus is, you don’t have that painful drive down to Devon and Cornwall which can sometimes be a real bind and makes these parks really attractive, especially for short breaks.
