Ventnor sits on the south coast of the Isle of Wight and is somewhat different to the neighbouring towns nearby. The town is backed by woodlands and there are roads that zig zag down the slopes from the hills above giving a mediterranean feel. The southerly facing nature and the hills protect the town from harsh northerly winds giving it a micro climate that allows plants here to flourish. That all comes together to create a pretty stunning backdrop if you come to visit Ventnor!

The town has Botanic Gardens that you can visit that take advantage of the micro climate. There is a beach with a promenade along the seafront that is sand and shingle, busy in the summer with plenty of parking nearby and a small harbour to the side of the beach. The village of Bonchurch is walkable from Ventnor, considered by some to be the best preserved village on the Isle of Wight and has a great beach which reveals a large area of sand as the tide goes out and is well worth a visit.

If you are looking for a holiday park in the Ventnor area, there are a few nearby including lodge and caravan parks near Ventnor that have pools and fishing and a few parks in Ventnor that have chalets, villas and apartments. Ventnor Holiday Parks – FAQs:

Is Ventnor a good place to stay for a holiday park or caravan break?

Ventnor is better suited as a place to visit rather than where most holiday parks are located. Caravan parks, lodge parks and campsites are generally found just outside the town or along the south and east coast. Staying nearby gives easy access to Ventnor while offering more space and easier access than staying directly in the town.

What makes Ventnor different from other Isle of Wight seaside towns?

Ventnor sits on the south side of the island and has a more sheltered feel due to its position below the downs. It is less traditional than Shanklin and less busy than Sandown, with a stronger focus on independent shops, food and a slower pace. The steep streets and layout give it a very different character to other towns.

What is Ventnor beach like?

Ventnor Beach is smaller than many others on the island but has a distinctive feel, backed by the town and promenade. It is a mix of sand and shingle, with cafés and places to eat close by. It tends to be quieter than Shanklin and Sandown, making it a good option if you want something less busy.

What are the best places to eat and drink in Ventnor?

Ventnor has one of the strongest food scenes on the Isle of Wight. Smoking Lobster is one of the most well known restaurants, while Cantina is popular for a more relaxed setting near the beach. The Spyglass Inn sits right on the seafront and is one of the most recognisable pubs in the area. Many places are independent and locally run.

What can you do around Ventnor during your stay?

Most visits to Ventnor focus on walking, food and coastal scenery. The coastal path runs through the area, offering routes towards Bonchurch and further along the south coast. Ventnor Botanic Garden is also nearby and benefits from the town’s warmer microclimate. Many visitors combine Ventnor with trips to Shanklin or the wider island.

Where are the nearest caravan parks, touring parks and campsites to Ventnor?

Holiday parks and campsites are spread across the surrounding area rather than within Ventnor itself. You will find caravan parks and touring caravan parks inland and along the coast towards Shanklin and the wider south east of the island. These offer easier access while still being within a short drive of Ventnor.

What do people typically do when staying near Ventnor?

Most stays are slower paced. A typical day might include time on Ventnor Beach, lunch at one of the seafront restaurants, then a coastal walk or short drive to nearby towns like Shanklin. It is less about attractions and more about enjoying the setting.

Is Ventnor suitable for touring caravans and camping?

Yes, but mainly in the surrounding areas rather than the town itself. Touring caravan parks and campsites nearby provide a better base, as access within Ventnor can be more limited due to its steep layout. Staying just outside gives more flexibility.

How does Ventnor compare to Shanklin or Sandown?

Ventnor is quieter and more individual. Shanklin offers a more traditional seaside experience, while Sandown is more open and activity focused. Ventnor stands out for its setting, food scene and slower pace, making it better suited to couples or visitors looking for something less typical.
