Hampshire Reviews
Anthony Davies
We had a great holiday in Hampshire and stayed at Shorefield, not to far away from the beach and the site was very well maintained. There are some great places to visit, loved walking around the New Forest, Fordingbridge is pretty and Brockenhurst is a good place for walking and seeing the ponies. Paulton's park is also perfect if you have younger children, reasonably good value for money.

Have you stayed here?

Where do people actually stay when booking caravan parks in Hampshire?

Most bookings fall into two clear patterns.

New Forest locations around Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Ringwood are the main choice for countryside stays, with parks positioned just outside the forest where access is easier. Coastal stays are concentrated around Hayling Island and Milford on Sea, where you get direct access to the sea without needing long drives.

Trying to combine both in one base usually means spending too much time in the car.

Are there caravan holidays near the New Forest?

Yes, the New Forest is one of the strongest areas near Hampshire for caravan holidays, lodge breaks and countryside stays. Parks near the forest work well for walking, cycling, dog friendly breaks and easy trips to places such as Lymington, Beaulieu and Milford on Sea.

What do people actually do when staying in Hampshire holiday parks?

Most stays are simple and local.

  • time in the New Forest, walking, cycling or stopping in places like Lyndhurst or Lymington
  • one or two coastal days at Hayling Island or Milford on Sea
  • occasional visit to Portsmouth, usually the Historic Dockyard or harbour

It is not a destination where people plan multiple full day trips across the county.

Are there good coastal caravan parks in Hampshire?

Yes, but they are different to traditional seaside resorts.

Hayling Island is the most established location, with beach access and a number of larger holiday parks. Milford on Sea is quieter, with coastal walks and views across to the Isle of Wight rather than a busy seafront.

The coastline is flatter and less commercial than places like Devon or Dorset, which is part of the appeal.

Is Hampshire a good option for a short holiday park break?

Yes, this is where it performs best.

Hampshire is easy to reach from London and the South East, which is why many stays are three to four nights rather than full weeks. You can base yourself in one area, particularly the New Forest, and not need to travel far.

If you are expecting a packed itinerary, it can feel limited.

What do people get wrong when booking caravan parks in Hampshire?

They choose location based on a map rather than how the area works.

Staying “in the middle” of Hampshire often means longer drives to both the New Forest and the coast. Another common mistake is choosing parks too deep into the forest where access and parking become more difficult during the day.

In Hampshire, being just outside key areas is usually more practical than being in the centre of them.

Are there touring caravan parks and campsites in Hampshire?

Yes, particularly around the New Forest.

Touring sites near Brockenhurst, Lyndhurst and Ringwood are popular because they give direct access to forest routes. Coastal touring parks around Hayling Island are easier to access, with fewer narrow roads compared to more rural inland areas.

Arriving earlier in the day avoids the heaviest traffic around the forest.

Which part of Hampshire is best for holiday parks?

Hayling Island and the Solent are best for coastal holiday parks and beach access, while the New Forest suits woodland walks, cycling and quieter lodge breaks. Milford on Sea works well for coastal stays close to the New Forest, and Winchester or inland Hampshire are better for historic attractions and countryside breaks.
