Approximately a 10-minute drive away is the Dinosaur Isle Museum, this is a great place for families and dinosaur enthusiasts to visit. A day here combines education with adventure, your visit begins with a walk through the introductory exhibition, which takes you from the Ice Age to the Cretaceous period. The main gallery features life sized dinosaur models and over one thousand fossils are displayed here. If you would like, you can pre-book a guided fossil hunt where you will take a trip to nearby fossil rich beaches such as Shanklin or Yaverland. You can also visit the working laboratory where you can see palaeontologists and volunteers prepare the latest fossil finds. Carisbrooke Castle museum is the oldest museum on the Isle of Wight and was established in 1898 by HRH Princess Beatrice who was Queen Victoria’s youngest daughter. Yarmouth Castle was built by Henry VIII in 1547 to protect Yarmouth Harbour on the Isle of Wight from the threat of French attack, this is a fascinating castle to visit especially if you love history.
