Overview of Loch Lomond Waterfront Luxury Lodges

Loch Lomond Waterfront Luxury Lodges is a five-star self-catering retreat beside the water at Balmaha, within Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park in Stirlingshire. Set across approximately 18 acres of private grounds beneath Conic Hill, it combines luxury accommodation with its own private beach and direct access to one of Scotland's most famous lochs. Discover a great range of parks offering caravan and lodge holidays in Stirlingshire here.

The accommodation has expanded beyond the original luxury lodges. Guests can now choose from spacious two-bedroom lodges and chalets sleeping up to six, romantic Waterfront Cabins for two and boutique shepherd's huts for couples. Every lodge and chalet has its own covered private hot tub overlooking the grounds or Loch Lomond, while selected Waterfront Cabins have outdoor copper baths instead.

The setting is a major part of the holiday. Guests can swim directly from the private loch beach, bring paddleboards or kayaks to explore the water and arrange fishing locally with the appropriate permit. A wild sauna overlooking the loch adds a distinctive wellness experience, while spa and beauty treatments can be booked in the privacy of most of the larger accommodation.

Balmaha itself adds considerably to the location. The West Highland Way runs through the village, Conic Hill rises immediately behind it and boats leave for Inchcailloch and trips across Loch Lomond. The Oak Tree Inn, local shop and café are also within easy walking distance.

Loch Lomond Waterfront is particularly strong for couples, families and friends who want the scenery and activities of a National Park holiday but prefer high-quality self-catering accommodation to a conventional holiday park.

There is equally plenty for active visitors. Walking, swimming, paddling, fishing and boat trips can all form part of a stay without travelling far, while Balloch, Stirling and Glasgow broaden the options for longer days out.

Loch Lomond Waterfront Luxury Lodges FAQs

Do all the lodges at Loch Lomond Waterfront have hot tubs?

Yes. All of the main luxury lodges and chalets have their own covered private hot tub. Waterfront Cabins and shepherd's huts do not have hot tubs, although selected cabins have outdoor copper baths.

Does Loch Lomond Waterfront have its own beach?

Yes. The resort has a private beach on Loch Lomond. Guests can use it for relaxing beside the water, paddling, launching suitable non-motorised craft and wild swimming.

Is Loch Lomond Waterfront dog friendly?

Yes. Selected lodges, chalets and Waterfront Cabins welcome dogs. Other accommodation is specifically kept pet free, so guests can choose the option that suits them.

Can you fish at Loch Lomond Waterfront?

Fishing is available on Loch Lomond. Guests need the appropriate permission or permit and should follow the rules and seasons that apply to their chosen fishing area. Permits, bait and boat hire can be arranged locally in Balmaha.

Can you swim in Loch Lomond from the resort?

Yes. The private beach gives direct access to the loch and the resort actively promotes wild swimming. Loch swimming is very different from swimming in a supervised pool, so guests should assess weather and water conditions and use appropriate safety precautions.

Is there somewhere to eat near Loch Lomond Waterfront?

Yes. The Oak Tree Inn is next door in Balmaha and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the village also has a coffee shop and ice cream parlour. These are local village facilities rather than restaurants operated by the resort itself.

Accommodation at Loch Lomond Waterfront Luxury Lodges

The accommodation range now caters for several quite different types of stay. Large lodges and chalets provide spacious self-catering for families and groups, while Waterfront Cabins and shepherd's huts offer shorter and more intimate stays for couples.

The key distinction when booking is the hot tub provision. Every lodge and chalet has a private hot tub, but the smaller cabins and shepherd's huts do not.

Luxury Lodges

There are eight luxury lodges, positioned to take advantage of the Loch Lomond setting.

The lodges sleep from two to six guests and have two en suite bedrooms, along with additional sleeping space where required. Bed configurations can provide flexibility for couples, families or friends sharing.

Open-plan kitchens, dining areas and lounges provide plenty of communal space, while large windows and outdoor terraces make the views part of the accommodation.

Each lodge has its own private covered hot tub, normally seating up to four guests. The hot tub is positioned outside on the terrace, allowing guests to enjoy the surrounding scenery throughout the year.

Several lodges welcome dogs while others are specifically pet free. Selected lodges can also interconnect, providing additional flexibility for larger family groups or friends travelling together.

Luxury Chalets

The three chalets are single-storey properties sleeping up to six adults.

Each has two en suite bedrooms, a sofa bed in the lounge and an additional shower room. The open-plan kitchen, dining and living space is designed for self-catering stays, with appliances including a full-size fridge freezer, dishwasher, oven, hob and microwave.

A private terrace and hot tub overlook Loch Lomond, with the front-row position providing particularly open views towards the water.

Two chalets currently welcome dogs while one is maintained as pet-free accommodation.

Waterfront Cabins

The four Waterfront Cabins provide a very different style of stay.

Designed primarily for two guests, each combines a double bed, living area, shower room and equipped kitchen with large windows framing the surrounding landscape. Outside is a private terrace with seating and the option of a firepit.

Two cabins have private outdoor copper baths, providing an open-air bathing experience instead of a hot tub.

Two of the Waterfront Cabins welcome one dog, while the other two are pet free.

Cabins can be booked from one night, making them particularly useful for shorter Loch Lomond breaks or walkers travelling along the West Highland Way.

Shepherd's Huts

Three shepherd's huts provide the glamping element of the resort.

These compact stays sleep two and are designed for couples, solo travellers and walkers who want something simpler than a full lodge without moving into conventional camping.

The huts do not have private hot tubs but guests can use the private beach, beach firepit and book the wild sauna.

One-night stays are available, which makes them particularly useful for walkers and shorter breaks.

Dog-Friendly Accommodation

The current pet-friendly range includes four lodges, two chalets and two Waterfront Cabins.

Lodges and chalets generally accept up to two dogs, while designated dog-friendly Waterfront Cabins accept one.

The 18 acres of grounds give dogs plenty of outdoor space, while the West Highland Way, Balmaha woods and wider National Park offer extensive walking beyond the resort.

Pet-Free Accommodation

Guests who prefer accommodation where pets have not stayed also have a substantial choice.

Four lodges, one chalet, two Waterfront Cabins and all of the shepherd's huts are currently designated pet free.

Park Facilities at Loch Lomond Waterfront Luxury Lodges

The facilities at Loch Lomond Waterfront are closely tied to its setting. Rather than relying on an entertainment complex, the resort uses its private beach, 18 acres of grounds and direct Loch Lomond access to offer swimming, watersports, wellness and outdoor activities.

Private Loch Lomond Beach

The private beach is one of the resort's strongest assets.

It provides direct access to Loch Lomond without guests having to drive to a public beach or launch point. The shoreline can be used for picnics and relaxing, while the water is suitable for paddling and wild swimming when conditions allow.

A communal beach firepit also creates a particularly appealing place to spend an evening beside the loch.

Because this is a freshwater loch beach rather than a conventional seaside beach, water temperature and changing weather conditions need to be taken seriously.

Wild Swimming

Guests can swim directly in Loch Lomond from the private beach.

For experienced open-water swimmers this gives the resort a genuine advantage, particularly when combined with the lochside wild sauna.

Loch Lomond is a large, deep body of water and can remain very cold even during warmer weather. Swimming should therefore be approached as open-water swimming rather than as a substitute for a supervised swimming pool.

Wild Sauna

The wild sauna has become one of the more distinctive facilities at Loch Lomond Waterfront.

Set beside the water, it can be booked for sauna sessions overlooking the Loch Lomond landscape. It works particularly well in combination with walking, watersports or a cold-water swim.

Guests should book sauna time in advance, particularly during busy periods.

Spa and Beauty Treatments

Spa treatments can be arranged in the privacy of the accommodation.

Treatments include options such as Swedish massage, aromatherapy treatments, facials, manicures and pedicures. Longer treatment packages can also be booked.

The therapist travels to the accommodation, so there is no need for guests to visit a communal treatment room.

Treatments are principally suited to the larger accommodation rather than the more compact Waterfront Cabins and shepherd's huts and should be booked in advance.

Hot Tubs

Every luxury lodge and chalet has a private Jacuzzi-style hot tub.

Each seats approximately four people and is covered, making the facility usable throughout much of the year regardless of the Scottish weather.

Hot tubs are private to the individual accommodation rather than shared between guests.

Waterfront Cabins and shepherd's huts do not have hot tubs.

Kayaking and Paddleboarding

The private beach provides direct access to Loch Lomond for suitable non-motorised watersports.

Guests can bring appropriate paddleboards, kayaks and similar craft and use the shoreline as a starting point for exploring the loch.

The scale of Loch Lomond means weather and water conditions can change quickly, so paddlers should carry suitable safety equipment and choose routes appropriate to their experience.

Fishing

Loch Lomond provides opportunities for a genuine fishing holiday.

Guests have direct access to the water from the resort's private beach, while fishing permits, bait and boat hire can be arranged in Balmaha.

Fishing rules and permitted species vary according to location and season, so anglers should obtain the appropriate permit before starting and follow all current conditions.

Private Grounds

Approximately 18 acres of private grounds surround the accommodation.

Open grass, shoreline and natural areas provide space for walking, picnics, games and relaxing away from the individual lodges.

Dogs can exercise in large parts of the grounds provided they remain under responsible control.

Walking

The location is exceptional for walking.

The West Highland Way passes through Balmaha and Conic Hill begins almost directly behind the village. Guests can therefore leave the car at the resort and access some of Loch Lomond's best-known walking country on foot.

Shorter woodland and shoreline routes are also available for guests looking for something less strenuous.

Places to Visit Near Loch Lomond Waterfront Luxury Lodges

Balmaha is one of the strongest locations on Loch Lomond for visitors who want to explore on foot or by boat. Several of the area's principal experiences can be reached without taking the car.

Conic Hill rises immediately behind the village. At 361 metres it is a relatively short but fairly steep hill walk, with the climb rewarded by exceptional views over Loch Lomond, its islands and the Highland Boundary Fault. The recently improved path begins from the Balmaha area, making this one of the most obvious outings during a stay.

The West Highland Way also passes directly through Balmaha. Guests can follow sections north towards the more rugged eastern shore of Loch Lomond or walk south towards Drymen rather than tackling an entire long-distance stage.

For an easier local walk, the Millennium Forest Trail loops through woodland around Balmaha and takes approximately 45 minutes.

Inchcailloch provides one of the area's most distinctive family days out. Small passenger boats operate from Balmaha to the island during the main visitor season. Once ashore, visitors can explore woodland trails, look for wildlife and climb to viewpoints across the loch and surrounding mountains.

Boat trips also provide an easy way to experience Loch Lomond. Seasonal services from Balmaha include waterbus connections across to Luss as well as tours among the loch's islands.

For a larger family attraction, Balloch is approximately 12 miles away and is home to Loch Lomond Shores, with shopping, food, outdoor activities and SEA LIFE Loch Lomond. Nearby Balloch Castle Country Park covers approximately 200 acres of woodland, gardens, parkland and loch shore.

Glengoyne Distillery sits south of the National Park near Dumgoyne and offers guided whisky experiences. Its position makes it an easy addition to a day exploring the southern end of Loch Lomond.

Glasgow is also close enough for a city day, while Stirling provides Stirling Castle, historic streets and access to several major central Scotland attractions.
