Overview of Stratheck Holiday Park

Stratheck Holiday Park is a small riverside holiday park between Benmore and Loch Eck on the Cowal Peninsula in Argyll. Set beside the River Eachaig and surrounded by forested hills, it offers a quieter alternative to a large holiday village while still providing a choice of unusual accommodation and useful facilities, view more Argyll and Bute caravan parks here.

The current holiday range includes forest pods, two and four-bedroom cottages and caravan accommodation. Private hot tubs feature with selected pods and the cottages, making Stratheck particularly appealing for couples, families and groups looking for a relaxing break in the Scottish countryside. Dog-friendly choices are available, including accommodation welcoming up to two dogs.

Stratheck is also an established static caravan holiday park, with privately owned holiday homes forming an important part of the wider park alongside the rental accommodation.

On the park, The Country Club provides a licensed bar and relaxed lounge with games including pool, while families have an outdoor play area. Communal fire pits, a dog exercise area and plenty of open space add to the outdoor feel of the park.

The location is the main attraction. Loch Eck lies just to the north, Benmore Botanic Garden is only a short drive away and the surrounding Argyll Forest landscape provides excellent walking and cycling. Guests can also use selected leisure facilities at sister park Hunters Quay, including its swimming pool, gym, activities, entertainment and food and drink venues.

Yes. Private outdoor hot tubs are available with selected forest pods and the current two and four-bedroom cottages.

Is Stratheck Holiday Park dog friendly?

Yes. Selected holiday accommodation welcomes dogs, with some current options allowing up to two. The park also has outdoor space suitable for dog walking and a dedicated exercise area.

Does Stratheck Holiday Park have a swimming pool?

There is no swimming pool at Stratheck itself. Guests can use selected facilities at sister park Hunters Quay Holiday Village, which has an indoor swimming pool and other leisure facilities.

Is there a bar at Stratheck Holiday Park?

Yes. The Country Club is an on-site licensed bar and lounge with a television, pool table and relaxed social space.

What accommodation is available at Stratheck?

Current holiday accommodation includes forest pods, two and four-bedroom cottages and caravan accommodation. Privately owned static caravans and lodges also form an important part of the park.

Can you fish near Stratheck Holiday Park?

Loch Eck and the River Eachaig are important local fishing waters, but fishing rights and access are controlled. Anglers should arrange the appropriate permission or permit for the water they intend to fish rather than assuming fishing is included with a park stay.

Accommodation at Stratheck Holiday Park

Stratheck combines traditional caravan holidays with cottages and modern forest pods, giving guests a broader choice than the park's small size might suggest.

Privately owned static caravans are also a significant part of Stratheck, so the park should be viewed as both a holiday accommodation destination and an established holiday home community.

Forest Pods

The forest pods provide compact contemporary accommodation for couples, small families and friends.

Current hot tub pods can sleep up to four using a combination of a double sleeping area and additional pull-out or mezzanine sleeping space. The open-plan interior includes seating and self-catering facilities, while large windows help make the most of the surrounding mountain and woodland scenery.

Selected forest pods welcome up to two dogs and have a private outdoor hot tub.

There are also smaller pet-free pod options designed primarily for couples. These include a king-size sleeping area, kitchenette, shower room and private deck but do not necessarily include a hot tub.

Two-Bedroom Hot Tub Cottages

Two-bedroom cottages sleep up to four guests and are particularly suitable for families or two couples.

The layout includes a main double bedroom with en suite facilities, a twin bedroom and a separate family bathroom. A comfortable living area incorporates a built-in fire, while the kitchen provides the facilities needed for a self-catering stay.

Outside, private decking leads to an individual hot tub.

Current two-bedroom cottages are dog friendly, with up to two dogs accepted in designated accommodation.

Four-Bedroom Hot Tub Cottages

The larger cottages provide one of Stratheck's strongest options for extended families and groups.

They sleep up to eight guests across two double bedrooms and two twin bedrooms. Each bedroom has en suite facilities, with an additional family shower room providing extra convenience for larger parties.

The open-plan kitchen, dining and living area gives everyone space to spend time together, while a dishwasher and full self-catering facilities make longer stays easier.

Private decking and an outdoor hot tub complete the accommodation.

Holiday Caravans

Caravan accommodation is also available within the current holiday range.

Current bookable caravan options sleep up to four guests and typically provide a double bedroom, twin bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living space.

Caravans offer a more traditional holiday park stay and can be a good choice for families who want straightforward self-catering accommodation without paying for the larger hot tub cottages.

Privately Owned Static Caravans and Lodges

Stratheck is also an established holiday home park, with privately owned static caravans forming a substantial part of the development.

New and pre-owned holiday homes are offered for sale subject to availability, with both caravans and lodges represented within the ownership range.

These privately owned holiday homes should not automatically be treated as rental accommodation. Guests looking to book a short break should choose from the current holiday rental range.

Park Facilities at Stratheck Holiday Park

Stratheck's facilities complement its quiet riverside setting rather than turning it into a large entertainment resort. The Country Club, children's play area and outdoor facilities provide useful options on site, while access to Hunters Quay significantly expands what guests can do during their stay.

The Country Club

The Country Club is Stratheck's main indoor social facility.

This cosy clubhouse has a licensed bar serving drinks in a relaxed setting. Inside there is a flat-screen television and pool table, giving guests somewhere to spend an evening without needing to drive into Dunoon.

It is primarily a bar and lounge rather than a full restaurant, so guests wanting a wider food menu can visit nearby venues or use the restaurants and takeaway facilities at Hunters Quay.

Children's Play Area

An outdoor children's play area gives younger guests somewhere to play within the park.

It works particularly well with Stratheck's family accommodation and provides an easy option between days exploring the wider Cowal Peninsula.

Dog Exercise Area

Dogs are welcomed in selected accommodation and the park has dedicated exercise space for pets.

The surrounding area is also particularly good for dog-friendly holidays, with extensive forest roads and walking routes around Benmore, Loch Eck and the wider Argyll Forest landscape.

Communal Fire Pits

Communal fire pits add to the outdoor character of Stratheck and provide somewhere for guests to spend an evening outside when conditions are suitable.

They complement the forest pods particularly well and help give the park more of a countryside retreat feel.

Walking and Cycling

Stratheck sits within an exceptional area for walking and cycling.

Forest tracks extend through the hills around Benmore and Loch Eck, while Glenbranter to the north provides further woodland routes and viewpoints.

Cyclists can explore the quieter local roads and forestry tracks, while walkers have everything from easy woodland routes to longer hill walks within reach.

Fishing Around Loch Eck and the River Eachaig

The River Eachaig runs through the Stratheck area and flows south from Loch Eck towards the Holy Loch.

Both the river and loch support salmon and sea trout, but fishing access is controlled. Salmon and sea trout fishing rights on the River Eachaig and Loch Eck are privately managed, so guests should obtain the appropriate permission before fishing.

For that reason, Stratheck should not be promoted as providing unrestricted on-site fishing simply because the river passes the park.

Facilities at Hunters Quay

Stratheck guests can use selected facilities at Hunters Quay Holiday Village, approximately 10 to 15 minutes away by car.

Hunters Quay provides an indoor swimming pool, gym, activities, evening entertainment and food and drink facilities. Some activities and facilities may involve an additional charge.

This arrangement gives Stratheck a useful advantage. Guests can enjoy the peace of a much smaller park while still having access to a broader leisure offering when they want it.

WiFi and Parking

WiFi is available for guests and parking is provided either beside or close to the holiday accommodation.

Places to Visit Near Stratheck Holiday Park

Stratheck's position between Benmore and Loch Eck makes it particularly well suited to visitors who want to explore the forests, lochs and hills of the Cowal Peninsula.

Benmore Botanic Garden is one of the closest major attractions. The 120-acre mountainside garden is best known for its impressive avenue of giant redwoods, but visitors can also explore collections of rhododendrons, conifers and plants from temperate regions around the world. Waymarked paths climb through the grounds to viewpoints over the surrounding landscape.

Loch Eck is only a short distance north of the park. The long freshwater loch is surrounded by steep forested hills and provides attractive scenery for walking, cycling and paddling. Jubilee Point is one of the recognised places for launching portable non-motorised craft.

Glenbranter Forest lies at the northern end of the loch and offers another good choice for walking. Forest roads and waymarked trails explore wooded glens and higher ground, with viewpoints back towards Loch Eck.

Puck's Glen is normally one of Cowal's best-known woodland attractions, but the gorge trail is closed during the 2026 visitor season following storm damage. Alternative forest routes remain available in the surrounding Benmore area.

Heading south, Kilmun and the Holy Loch offer waterfront scenery and local history before reaching Dunoon. The town provides supermarkets, independent shops, cafés and restaurants alongside its promenade and ferry connections. Castle House Museum explores the history of Dunoon and the wider Cowal Peninsula.

Ardentinny is another appealing destination for a quieter day outdoors. The village sits beside Loch Long with shoreline walks, picnic areas and access to surrounding woodland.

Visitors willing to travel further can also explore Inveraray on the shore of Loch Fyne. Its distinctive whitewashed townscape, Inveraray Castle and historic jail make it a worthwhile longer day out from Stratheck.
