Sandgreen Caravan Park is a peaceful coastal holiday park directly beside Fleet Bay near Gatehouse of Fleet in Dumfries and Galloway. Set across approximately 42 acres of gently sloping countryside, the park has its own private sandy beach and views across one of the most attractive stretches of the Solway coast. The location is the main reason to stay. Guests can walk from anywhere on the park to the beach within a few minutes without crossing a road, while some holiday homes sit particularly close to the waterfront.

Current holiday rental accommodation consists of a small fleet of six units. Two and three-bedroom caravans sleep four or six guests, while a compact one-bedroom mini lodge provides couples accommodation for two close to the beach.

Most current rental accommodation welcomes dogs, with up to two accepted in selected caravans and one accepted in the couples lodge. One three-bedroom caravan remains specifically pet free.

Each caravan has a fitted kitchen, central heating, free WiFi, private decking with outdoor furniture, gas barbecue and its own storage shed. The couples accommodation adds towels and bathrobes as standard.

Sandgreen deliberately avoids large resort facilities. There is no clubhouse, bar, restaurant, swimming pool or organised evening entertainment. Instead, guests have direct beach access, free boat launching, a children's play area, laundry facilities and plenty of space for walking, cycling and time beside the water.

Gatehouse of Fleet is approximately five miles away, while Kirkcudbright and Castle Douglas provide further shops, restaurants and attractions within easy driving distance.

Does Sandgreen Caravan Park have its own beach?

Yes. Sandgreen has a private sandy beach directly attached to the holiday park.

Guests do not need to cross a road to reach it and even accommodation at the furthest part of the park is only a few minutes away on foot.

Is Sandgreen Caravan Park dog friendly?

Yes. Most current rental accommodation welcomes dogs.

Selected two and three-bedroom caravans accept up to two dogs, while the one-bedroom couples accommodation accepts one dog. One current three-bedroom caravan is kept pet free.

Dogs need to remain on leads around the park. Well behaved dogs can currently exercise off lead on the beach between 9pm and 8am.

Can you launch a boat or kayak at Sandgreen?

Yes. Holiday hire guests can launch their own boat from the private beach free of charge.

Evidence of insurance is required for boats. Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards can also be launched and do not currently require the same insurance evidence.

Does Sandgreen have a swimming pool or entertainment?

Two Bedroom Caravans

Two-bedroom caravans sleep four guests.

Layouts combine one double bedroom with one twin bedroom alongside an open plan lounge, kitchen and dining space.

Current accommodation includes a shower room and selected caravans also have an additional en suite WC.

Patio doors open onto private decking with outdoor furniture, giving guests useful outdoor living space during warmer weather.

A gas barbecue is provided.

Selected two-bedroom caravans welcome up to two dogs.

Three Bedroom Caravans

Three-bedroom caravans sleep six.

Layouts have one double bedroom and two twin rooms, making them particularly suitable for families.

Bathroom provision varies between the individual units, with selected accommodation providing two bathroom or WC facilities.

Private decking, outdoor furniture and a gas barbecue are included.

Several current three-bedroom caravans welcome up to two dogs, while one is maintained as pet free.

Couples Mini Lodge

The one-bedroom accommodation sleeps two and sits only a short distance from the beach.

Sleeping can be arranged as one bed for two guests or two individual beds subject to advance arrangement.

The accommodation has a fitted kitchen with cooker, fridge and freezer compartment, microwave, toaster, kettle and coffee machine.

A private bathroom has a walk-in shower.

Outside, covered and open decking provide sea views and outdoor seating, while a gas barbecue and storage shed are also included.

One dog is welcome.

Unlike the larger caravans, towels and bathrobes are currently included as standard.

The private beach and Fleet Bay setting are the principal reasons to spend time on the park, supplemented by boat launching, children's play and practical laundry facilities.

Private Sandy Beach

Sandgreen's private beach is its standout feature.

The beach forms part of the park itself, so there is no road to cross and no need to drive to a separate coastal car park.

Even visitors staying towards the back of the park can reach the sand within a few minutes.

The sheltered Fleet Bay setting makes the beach suitable for slower days beside the water, paddling, beach games, walking and launching small craft when conditions allow.

Several waterfront holiday homes sit particularly close to the shore.

Boat Launching

Holiday hire guests can launch their own boat directly from the beach without an additional launching charge.

Boats need appropriate insurance and guests should show evidence before launching.

This makes Sandgreen particularly appealing to visitors who already own a small boat and want accommodation where launching does not require towing it to a separate harbour or slipway each day.

Kayaking, Canoeing and Paddleboarding

Kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards can also be launched from Sandgreen Beach.

These craft do not currently need the same insurance evidence as powered or conventional boats.

Fleet Bay's sheltered geography can provide attractive paddling conditions, although guests should always assess weather, tides and their own experience before going onto the water.

Children's Play Area

Sandgreen has an outdoor children's playpark.

The current park rules designate it for children under 12 and require adult supervision.

Opening hours are currently 9am to 9pm.

The beach provides additional outdoor space, although younger children also need appropriate supervision around the shoreline and water.

Dog Friendly Beach Access

Dogs are welcome around the park subject to lead rules.

They must remain on leads around Sandgreen itself.

Well behaved dogs are currently allowed to exercise off lead on the beach between 9pm and 8am, giving owners an opportunity for a longer run when the beach is quieter.

Launderette

An on-site launderette has commercial washing machines and dryers.

Tokens and advice are available from reception and guests should bring their own detergent.

This is especially useful for longer stays and families spending several days around the beach.

Reception is normally staffed daily between 9am and 5pm during the hire season.

The team handles arrivals, local information and practical questions about boat launching, the beach and park facilities.

Accessibility

Sandgreen is naturally sloping and parts of the ground are rough.

The park does not recommend it for wheelchair use because of the gradients and natural terrain, so guests with mobility requirements should discuss their needs directly with the park before booking.

Places to Visit Near Sandgreen Caravan Park

Gatehouse of Fleet is the nearest town and provides shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants alongside the Mill on the Fleet visitor centre and attractive streets beside the River Fleet.

Cardoness Castle is one of the closest historic attractions. The 15th-century tower house stands above the Fleet Valley with extensive views towards the coast.

Cream o' Galloway is also only a short drive away and combines farm walks, food and family activities.

Kirkcudbright is approximately 10 miles from Sandgreen and is known for its artistic heritage, harbour, galleries and independent shops.

Castle Douglas is approximately 15 miles away and is one of the region's main food towns, with independent shops, cafés and larger supermarkets.

The wider area also provides excellent walking and cycling. Galloway Forest Park is accessible for longer days out, while the 7stanes mountain bike trails provide some of Scotland's best known off-road cycling.
