Overview of Southerness Holiday Park

Southerness Holiday Park is situated on the west coast of Scotland not too far away from Hadrian's Wall and therefore only just over the English border. In fact, if travelling from England it’s possible that you may have recently travelled through the world-famous Gretna Green, famed for its wedding venue where people have historically eloped to tie the knot. Just to the north-west is the beautiful and scenic area of Galloway Forest Park, known for its fantastic walks and mountain bike trails and of course its scenery. Southerness Holiday Park is lucky enough to be situated right next to the coastline with the choice of two beaches to visit locally, being Powillmount Beach to the east and Southerness Beach to the west.

The holiday park itself is a dog friendly Parkdean Resort and boasts a whole heap of facilities and activities to make a break here a very happy one. Facilities here include a laundrette, a convenience store, a family restaurant, Costa Coffe, the Sunset Showbar and a takeaway. The whole family will not be short of things to do here as the park has a large indoor swimming pool, a smaller toddlers pool, an amusement arcade and an outdoor adventure playground area. With much entertainment on offer including Doctor Slime and exciting games of bingo to play for the whole family.

There are multiple choices of ways you can stay here including caravan and lodge holidays with the option to purchase a holiday homes. The caravans and luxury lodges can sleep up to 8 people with a great deal of those being pet friendly and 2 of those being accessible units. They holiday park also provides the option to choosing touring and camping pitches with all pitches being electric pitches whilst some include water and drainage. All are dog friendly pitches and there's everything here you would expect including a shower and toilet block including a disabled bathroom.

Days out can be had locally with a walk along Southeness Beach which is ideal for long leisurely walks with the dog and has plenty of rock pools which provide excellent opportunities for crab fishing. The market town of Dumfries is only a 30-minute drive to the north and sits alongside the River Nith. It’s here that you can visit The Robert Burns House Museum, Sweetheart Abbey or just go shopping in the local shopping centre.

Most have double glazing and central heating and all have tv's and fully fitted kitchens. Most of the accommodation choices are extra wide and some of them benefit from having outdoor furnished living spaces, such as the Helmsdale Lodge. For those needing an extra wide holiday home which has accessible features and allows pets then check out the Carron WFA which features a wet room, access ramp and a wide corridor. Whatever your individual requirements are and what budget you have in mind, you can be rest assured that there will be something for everyone at Southerness Holiday Park.

For those choosing to bring their own accommodation there are several options to choose from including tents and touring caravans. There are serviced, hard standing, grass, electric hookups and those pitches which allow awnings. Onsite there is a shower block, water and waste disposal areas and a laundrette.

    Facilities at Southerness Holiday Park

    As you would expect from a Parkdean Resort, there is a lot to do onsite which includes the impressive indoor swimming pool featuring a waterslide and for the younger visitors, there is a toddler’s pool. Sticking with indoor facilities, there is an amusement arcade and Lazer Force providing hours of fun for all the family. Outside, there is an adventure playground with sea views providing an area for the children to socialize and let off some steam. There's also a nature trail for those who prefer exploring the local area and its wildlife. There are a great deal of children’s activities and family entertainment provided including Professor Slime, live acts and everybody’s favourite Bingo!

    Onsite there is a convenience store with further supermarkets at nearby Dumfries. There is a laundrette for those people who like to travel light or who may have adventurous children and a shower block for those who are touring and camping. Head to the Costa Coffee for a quick pick me up or the bar and restaurant for tasty meals and refreshing drinks, there's also a takeaway for quick bites.

Places to visit near to Southerness Holiday Park

With lots to do onsite, some days it may be hard to leave. Alternatively, you may just wish to head here for complete rest, relaxation and gentle strolls on the beach. If that’s the case then Southerness Beach is perfect for long walks, exploring rock pools, and hopefully spotting the local marine wildlife such as seals and dolphins on this dog friendly beach which has wonderful views of the Solway Firth.

Not too far away is the stunning scenery of Galloway Forest Park which is Britain’s largest forest park and the place to head for a whole heap of reasons. Whether its star gazing at night, wildlife spotting including red deer and wild goats or perhaps mountain biking. This is a place not to miss! Not to mention the beautiful landscapes, rolling hills and forest trails to explore on foot.

In and around Dumfries there is lots to see and do including visits to the uniquely shaped Caverlock castle. The Robert Burns House Museum and Sweetheart Abbey which is surrounded by Criffel Hill and the Solway Firth and has a story to tell. Dumfires also has lots of independent stores and cafes to discover and nearby a great selection of golf courses to try your hand at including Southerness Golf Course itself which is a relaxing course right on the coastline.
